Wondering what to do with the kids over the next few weeks? Here’s 8 games for kids that will keep them busy for hours – all without leaving your home!

1. Hide and Seek

As the name suggests, you have “hiders” and a “seeker”.

The seeker closes their eyes and counts to 100 while the hiders run about the house or yard and find a spot to hide.

After reaching 100 the seeker opens their eyes letting out an almighty “Ready or Not! Here I come!!” and goes looking for the hiders.

The aim is for the hiders to run back to “base” without being caught by the seeker! If you are found then it’s your turn to be the seeker otherwise the seeker goes back to counting!

2. What’s the Time Mr Wolf

This game can be played with just 2 people but is lots of fun with more!

One child is chosen to be “Mr Wolf” and stands at one end of the room with their back facing the others who are standing in a line at the other end.

The players call out “What’s the time Mr Wolf?” and Mr Wolf shouts out a time, for example 4 o’clock.

Following the above example, the others would then take 4 steps while counting out loud.

This continues with the others repeating the question again and Mr Wolf with his back turned until they get very close to Mr Wolf.

The game gets exciting as at any time Mr Wolf can turn around and cry out “Dinner Time!” At which point he chases the others until he catches someone who then becomes the new Mr Wolf.

3. Musical Chairs

A fun game for kids or for the whole family!

You need as many chairs as players, music, and someone who is in charge of the music.

When the music starts, players walk or dance around the perimeter of the chair circle. When the music stops, everyone must quickly find a chair to sit on.

After each turn, one chair is removed. The one person left standing is out.

Keep removing chairs until there is only 1 person left on the chair!

4. Hangman

An old classic that we’ve forgotten we used to play long before the iPad and phone came along!

It’s easy!

Think of a word and on a sheet of paper mark out dashes for the number of letters in the word. For example, for the word Dubai you would put 5 dashes.

Your opponent needs to try and work our what the word is by guessing one letter at a time.

As they guess you write the letters down. If they guess a correct letter you mark it on the dash, if they don’t, then you draw one part of the Hangman.

The objective is to guess the word before forming the full hang-man!

See images for the picture! You might want to think of a theme together and come up with words to do with this theme.

5. Egg and Spoon Races

Here’s a fun one for all ages!

To make this cleaner for all involved, we suggest boiling up the eggs first.

Draw funny faces on them and name them.

In a hallway make out a start line with tape at both ends.

Put the eggs on the spoons and have the kids race to the end line without dropping the egg! Great for balance, hand eye co-ordination and a good laugh!

What you need:

-6 x Boiled eggs

-Dessert spoons

-Markers

-Tape – for the start and end lines!

6. Indoor Obstacle Course

Set the older ones off to create their own course or you can make one together encouraging the kids to climb, hop, skip and jump.

We’re not saying Ninja Warrior style, and especially not around your valuables or sharp corners, but something that gets them moving!

Once the course is set, you can take turns to see who can complete it the fastest.

Try and beat each others’ scores!

What you need

-Chairs

-Kitchen utensils, objects-anything

-A stop watch

-Lots of creativity

7. Treasure Hunt Around The House

Dig out some of the Christmas baubles you tucked away in January and take turns to hide them around the house.

If you have alphabet toys or foam cut outs, turn it into a learning game so they have to find all the letters of the alphabet and put it in order.

While you wait for the other person to hide the treasure, you can also get the kids practicing their counting skills!

8. Play Card Games
