I made my 3 year old a fun Outer Space Sensory Exploration Play Activity yesterday. He received moon sand from my mom awhile back and was looking for ideas of different ways he could play with it. While I was putting it together, he had a very hard time being patient- he couldn’t wait to play with everything he was seeing! I tried to finish while he was taking his nap because I like to see his little face light up when he gets his “surprise.”

Here’s what I put in it:
- moon sand-Spinmaster Moon Sand Castle Play Set, Michael’s has non-themed ones for cheaper- combine with 40-50% off coupon, or make your own moon sand
- superballs- planets
- crumpled tinfoil
- astronaut toys had on hand
- those plastic things toys come in when you buy things from those quarter machines at stores/restaurants- spaceships
- star shaped beads
- spoon
- fork- my son went in the drawer and got it!
- ice cream scooper- for making craters, make indentations with backside of scooper
- shovel and miscellaneous other things to dig and scoop withrocks- moon rocks
Things I wish I had on hand to put in it:
- toy aliens
- toy rockets
- toy spaceships
Some of the activities we did beside making craters are: counting the tinfoil and star beads and placing them into the pretend spaceships, I hid all the stars and he had to dig until he found all 13, andmade craters. The ice cream scooper was the biggest hit- he made a ton of moon ice cream!
Baby Sensory Play Bin
Baby Sister got to play with her very own Planets and Stars Sensory Bin too! This was a big hit and kept her busy for quite awhile. Her big brother thought it was so cool that his little sister got her own one to play with.At one point she dumped the box over and then she was chasing planets and reaching for the stars….. lol!
